Friday Pumpkin carving

I will be going out to carve pumpkin faces today. This will be my first time perticipating in this activity. What I am a bit worried about is that this weekend is Hallloween, and it will be raining. I did order a Chun-li costume from China on ebay, but it won't be arriving in time. This weekend, I have to finish my watercolor artwork which I found out that

1. Watercolor controls the artist, not vice versa.
2. It is very unpredictable how it will bleed and make textures.
3. I am so tired of cutting watercolor paper to make a design texture artwork

We have to do this piece as a breath in our AP 2D class, so I am getting exposed to it. A lot of times, watercolor isn't for me because of how transparent and soft it looks, and if it is too dark, then its too overpowering and looks more like paint then anything else. Well hopefully i will do well on this piece, and finally finish it.

I also have math homework to finish, but all I can think of right now is HALLOWEEN CANDY!!!

  1. you've never carved pumpkins before?!?! fail!

is that one you did in the picture? cause thats incredible though :O.. only place i've seen better looking pumpkins is the WoW carving contest, those people are REALLY into it lol.

what do you normally like to use? my friend is addicted to ink. but he is taking architecture in university, and for his drawing class this semester, they make them use all pencil. he isnt good with pencil techniques as he keeps telling me, so i guess its a good idea to get experience with all methods. he actually got a zero on a few assignments that he said took him 60 hours to draw each ^.^.. even though they looked incredible, the pencil strokes were showing a bit, so it is a zero grade :)

  2. sadly, the pumpkin in the picture is not carved by me.

I am also a big fan of ink because of the fact that when you work with ink, mistakes can't be taken back. This makes the artist more aware of what they are drawing and looking for. I also love how ink looks when you crosshatch and do other textures. Pencil showing in a work is pretty bad -_-, It kills the craftsmanship, so when sketching, I sketch lightly, so it is easier to erase later on. I enjoy drawing with pencil, painting, and inking the most.
